10:35AM - The Wrong Guest...

Apparently the runner grabbed the cab driver, rather than the actual guest for this News 24 interview. Unphased, the cabbie did the interview in the proper guest's place...

Is anybody else periodically incensed by Catherine Townsend's tawdry little 'fuck and tell' column in the Independent?

She totally ruined the Scientology article in yesterdays Independent simply by being next to it.
I prefer to read yesterdays news - that way I know I don't have to panic as the scare/war/asteroid has probably all been sorted out by now.

I could understand it if it was in one of the more sordid little rags, but the Indie?!

Mind you - they still feel it necessary to publish the vapid witterings of Miles Knighton, who appears to be the second most smug man in the Galaxy.

Who Should Paint You: Andy Warhol

You've got an interested edge that would be reflected in any portrait
You don't need any fancy paint techniques to stand out from the crowd!

Plus - in other news [info]nayomee is on holiday until next Monday, and I am pining significantly.
Gareth in work will get the worst of it.
I may go and look wistful at the water cooler for a minute.
*sigh* ;-)

Luckily, I have the beardy weirdy RPG world of Oblivion to play with while she's away.

It's a very beautiful and engaging game. If you're into your wizards, goblins and orcs then it'll rock your socks off. There's no prog in it - but you could quite easily turn off the in-game orchestral meanderings and slap on some Yes or King Crimson.

I do want that girl back though.
It hurts me to say it, but girls are better than wizards.

3:20PM - Ha ha

So true!

10:32AM

The logic in this article kind of makes sense - but I feel there could be a purely biological reason for this...

4:03PM - Useless fact

The first Thursday of next month, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be: 01:02:03 04/05/06.

3:55PM

I just learned a new IT acronym:
PEBCAK

Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard ;-)

1:37PM - Can't play in our garden!

THIS IS THE NEWS!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/4865122.stm

Through a systematic policy of breeding corruption, funding coups and implementing banana republics; the USA has largly retained control of Latin America for some years.

It seems that another big boy has started to throw his weight around in their playground.
China has dipped his conkers in concrete and is willing to play with anybody who will accept the challenge.

*dramatic voice*
Welcome to the beginning of the second cold war.

THAT'S RIGHT - IT'S WAR!

10:10AM - BOASAS

This is why I love the BOASAS:
http://www.boasas.com/?c=627

Admittedly it doesn't take much to amuse me.
A smug little green snake is more than enough =D

This weekend I was locked in a pub garden by a girl who shall remain anonymous because [info]nayomee would probably be embarrassed if I said it was her.

Anyway - rest assured we escaped before my rapidly-expanding bladder split and destroyed the visible universe. When I finally got to empty it, there was a man standing in the toilet just holding his cock and smoking a cigarette. He looked very content, but it was slightly disturbing. It seemed as though he had been there a long time and was quite prepared to stay. I wouldn't have been too surprised to go back in there later and find him eating a sandwich, still holding his cock (hopefully not a cock sandwich).

The upshot of all this is that the Butchers' Arms in Llandaff does a lovely lunch and Barry Island is teeming with chavs.

11:04AM - Call me monsieur triste fromage...

...but I watched the first two episodes of 'Tomb Of The Cybermen' last night.

It's old school Dr Who and thus has some truly awful bits of acting and playscool patronisation, along with the *cough* minimal *cough* effects and set design.

It makes up for it by mentioning logic gates in a vaguely relevant context, and throwing in other bits of science that could potentially get kids interested.

This educational element and 'science can be useful' sentiment is sadly lacking from the heavily Joss Whedon influenced RTD episodes of the new Dr Who.

Science and philosophy also feature as a central part of the plot (which I won't reveal here).
This is another thing that has been sadly eradicated from modern 'science fiction' (which seems to be a kind of 'action soap opera' with SF dressing these days).

It's also got a superbly choreographed scene that remains terrifying to this day - culminating in a rather super Cyber Controller telling the human race "You belong to us", in one of the spookiest, emotionless robot voices ever conceived.
